Although the area is permeated with a sense of peaceful seclusion, the entire Savannah area can be easily accessed via the convenient Truman Parkway. THUNDERBOLT Thunderbolt is home to historic Bonaventure Cemetery, graced by natural beauty and Victorian statuary. Peppered with houses reminiscent of old Key West, this tiny maritime municipality is a place where shrimpers still haul in their catch in the afternoons so that it will be on your plate the next day. THE ISLANDS Each of the islands east of Savannah has a distinct personality. The fi rst, Whitemarsh, offers the serenity of island living along with schools, shopping centers and a popular YMCA with forested walking trails. Wilmington Island, the largest, is dotted with tree-lined neighbor- hoods and large, private waterfront properties. T YBEE ISLAND Well-known as Savannah's beach and just 20 minutes from downtown, Tybee Island is fi lled with oceanfront condos and pastel cottages attracting beachgoers, kayakers, paddleboarders and marine enthusiasts. The Southside ISLE OF HOPE AND DUTCH ISLAND One of Savannah's most charming neighborhoods, Isle of Hope exudes the look of the coastal South with beautiful old cottages and mansions overlooking the Herb and Skidaway rivers. Located along the Herb River with access to the Intracoastal Waterway, Dutch Island is a premier gated waterfront residential community with approximately 500 homes on more than 500 acres. HABERSHAM WOODS Although most of its spacious, traditional homes were built during the 1960s and 1970s, Habersham Woods remains one of Savannah's most coveted addresses because of its proximity to downtown to the north as well as the commercial corridors further south. GROVELAND/KENSINGTON PARK One of Savannah's fi rst post-war, mid-century subdivisions, this neighborhood trends high with young families and features a members-only neighborhood swimming pool. COFFEE BLUFF Coffee Bluff is home to a few hundred families and a small group of Carmelite nuns who live in a historic waterfront monastery. This secluded community is mere minutes from a public marina, golf course, the Truman Parkway and features many homes on large lots. SKIDAWAY ISLAND AND THE LANDINGS Upscale gated communities, private golf courses and deep-water marinas are nestled among the natural grandeur of Skidaway Island's salt marshes and maritime forests, located conveniently off the Diamond Causeway.
