32 Savannah Area Chamber of Commerce 2016 Economic Trends 12 Population Distribution by Household Income and Race As Savannah's population grows, so do the incomes and benefits available to its residents. In the Savannah MSA, five-year U.S. Census estimates show that median household income is significantly higher in Bryan County and lowest in the City of Savannah. Chatham County and the City of Savannah have more households earning less than $25,000 annually, while the percentage of households earning between $25,000 and $49,999 is fairly evenly distributed among most of the areas shown in the table below. The differences among Savannah's geographic areas are clear in the $50,000 to $149,999 income range, with Chatham County and the City of Savannah falling behind Bryan, Effingham, and Beaufort counties. Beaufort County continues to hold the distinction of having the highest concentration of households earning more than $150,000. 2010-2014 Estimates of Income for Select Areas (in 2014 inflation-adjusted dollars) Area Number of Households Average Household Income Median Household Income Less than $25,000 $25,000 to $49,999 $50,000 to $149,999 $150,000 and Over Savannah Urban Area (City) 52,264 50,512 36,628 35.6% 27.5% 32.8% 4.1% Chatham County 103,807 64,240 46,987 26.7% 25.9% 39.7% 7.7% Effingham County 103,807 73,272 63,903 17.8% 19.7% 55.2% 7.2% Bryan County 11,231 78,511 65,123 18.3% 19.4% 53.1% 9.4% Savannah MSA 218,845 66,664 50,560 24.9% 24.6% 42.9% 7.7% Beaufort County (SC) 65,054 79,308 57,295 17.3% 26.0% 46.1% 10.6% Georgia 3,540,690 68,317 49,342 25.6% 24.8% 41.1% 8.4% Source: U.S. Census Bureau, American Factfinder2, 2010-2014 American Community Survey 5-Year Estimates, retrieved 12/7/2015 at http://factfinder2.census.gov. 3-Year estimates are no longer updated by the U.S. Census Bureau, and available only through 2011-2013.
