35 15 Savannah Area Chamber of Commerce 2024 Economic Trends Industry: Construction Residential Permitting Activity in Chatham County The total value of permitted residential construction in Chatham County was $384 million in 2023, a modest decrease of 4.2% from 2022. The value of multi-family home permits issued decreased but was offset by an increase in single-family units permitted by +60%. The total number of residential units permitted decreased to 1,812 from 1,981 in 2022. Residential Permitting Activity in the Savannah MSA The regional housing market in the three-county metro area continues to demonstrate strength with an increase in the total of single family home building permits by +14%, 313 units in 2023. The average value per unit issued decreased 7.8% from the previous year but still sits at a resounding average of $256,102.
