provides for the construc- tion of new schools, secu- rity upgrades, investments in new technology and facility improvements. Seven new/replacement schools were constructed after the first ESPLOST, and nine were completed under the ESPLOST II and si under the ESPLOST III continuation plans. A fourth voter-approved by 3 percent ESPLOST has one new replacement school on the project list, plus a number of renova- tions and additions to existing school facilities. ESPLOST dollars also have provided a valued resource in paying down previously incurred bond debt, which would have been paid by the citizens of Chatham County with- out this resource. EDUCATIONAL INITIATIVES Advanced Placement, dual enrollment, gifted programs, STEM Education, Career Pathways, Twilight High School and college credit programs are growing in popularity. Innovative teaching tools that focus on literacy and math are also helping students excel in all curriculum areas. TECHNOLOGY Educators throughout SCCPSS use instruc- tional technology to bring teaching to life. Digital resources enhance instruction and provide support for teaching practices that are student-centered, inventive and engaging. Interactive instructional models coupled with project-based learning and initiatives, like Bring Your Own Technology, are providing students with the tools they will need to be successful in college and their careers. Work-based learning integrates workplace experiences and career and technical education. The goal is to provide students with the knowl- edge and skills to connect school experiences to real-life work activities. Students participate in job shadowing, service learning, internships and apprenticeships. With pro- grams starting in elementary school and continuing through high school, students are exposed to quality academic experiences in medicine, logistics, global studies, the sciences, technology, engineering, math- ematics, criminal justice, visual and performing arts and more. Programs are oered at various schools across the district and are available by application for all stu- dents. Parents can find a full list of programs at sccpss. com.
