A big chunk of that donated money will go to expanding screenings to underserved communities
or covering the cost of screenings for uninsured patients. We've seen time and again that cancer is
most treatable when it's caught early.
One of our biggest missions is to get out into the
community and reach those who don't think they can
be screened.
In addition to the expertise from the NCORP, the LCRP
has moved aggressively to add the latest technology.
The LCRP is the only cancer center in the region to
have the robotic CyberKnife. This machine monitors
a patient's breathing and other body movements to
automatically follow the tiny movements of the tumor.
This allows a higher dose of radiation to be delivered more accurately, saving the healthy tissue
that surrounds a tumor. It can also reach tumors that are inoperable.
The TrueBeam radiation system is a brand new technology that also delivers a high rate of radiation
more accurately than traditional machines. We have three in operation.
Mole mapping is a technology that digitally tracks the size and location of moles on the body from
year to year. This gives physicians an easier way to see if a mole has grown or needs to be biopsied.
