72 Savannah Area Chamber of Commerce 2019 Economic Trends 27 Infrastructure: Transportation – Roads, Rail, Water and Air CAT Local Transit Service Expedites Travel The Chatham Area Transit Authority provides transportation services to about 596 passengers daily. CAT operates 67 buses on 20 fixed bus routes, logging 482 hours on weekdays, 412 hours on Saturdays, and 154 hours on Sundays. CAT buses log almost 170,000 hours and travel over 2.1 million miles annually. The one-way fare on CAT's fixed routes is $1.50, while transfers are free. A day-pass is $3. A weekly CAT card is $14, and a monthly CAT card is $50. Seniors (over 65), youth (ages 6-18), and disabled riders are charged half-fare. A fare-free daily shuttle serves downtown and the Historic District, connecting many CAT bus routes and the Savannah Belles Ferry service. The ferry arrives and departs from the City Hall dock on River Street, the Waving Girl Landing at the Savannah Marriott Riverfront, and on Hutchinson Island at the Savannah Convention Center and The Westin Savannah Harbor Resort and Spa every 20-30 minutes from 7:00 a.m. until 12.00 am, seven days a week, subject to weather and river traffic conditions. Coastal Regional Coaches This ten-county, on-demand shuttle service is part of Georgia's regional rural public transport program providing residents of Bryan, Bulloch, Camden, Chatham, Effingham, Glynn, Liberty, Long, McIntosh, and Screven counties with regional transportation. The service is available for traveling from or to a rural destination, and accommodates all transportation needs within the service area. At least one day's prior notice is required to reserve a trip, and fares are assessed on a per-passenger basis depending on destination. Bus Service to Destinations throughout North America Savannah has a station on Greyhound Lines, Inc. whose bus routes link riders to more than 3,800 destinations across the United States, Canada and Mexico. Greyhound provides scheduled passenger service, charter bus service, package express delivery and food service at certain terminals. Passenger Rail to New York and Miami Amtrak's Silver Service and Palmetto trains offer daily service from Savannah to New York, Washington, DC, Charleston, Jacksonville, Orlando, and Tampa/Miami. Freight Service at the Port of Savannah Both CSX Transportation and Norfolk Southern transport goods to and from the Port of Savannah. The Georgia Central Railway, a short line partner with CSX, operates tracks from Savannah to Vidalia and from Macon to Vidalia. GPA is constructing its Mason Mega Rail Terminal that will double the port's rail lift capacity to 1,000,000 containers per year, allow for the assembly of 10,000-foot long trains on site, and enhance the competitiveness of the port in reaching new markets in the Midwest.
